Under the supervision of the Regional Manager Income Assistance or the Manager Income Assistance and in accordance with the Social Assistance Act, regulations policies and departmental procedures, the incumbent will be responsible for the integrated delivery of the Income Assistance Program and ensuring that all clients are positioned to make workable, productive choices. Counselling may include referrals to appropriate agencies to address employment barriers.

The Income Assistance Worker is responsible for providing services to the community for a variety of Income Assistance programs including Social Assistance, Child Daycare Subsidy, Seniors’ Fuel Subsidy, and Nunavut Senior’s Supplement.

The incumbent is required to have knowledge of Income Assistance legislation, case management processes, and community agencies for referral purposes. Counselling skills, excellent interpersonal skills, presentation skills and the ability to work in a computerized environment. Bilingual required – Inuktitut or Inuinnaqtun and English.  

The knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this job could be acquired through a diploma or certificate in a related field or Grade 12 and two (2) years related experience.

The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktitut (Inuinnaqtun), English and French.

Equivalencies that consist of an acceptable combination of education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered.

Knowledge of Inuit language, communities, culture, land and Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit is required.
