The Plant Operation Engineer reports to the Maintenance Coordinator South.  The incumbent has the primary responsibility for the operation of a complex major regional health center.  This position involves the responsibility for the operation of 4 industrial sized boilers, steam generators, HEPA air filtration systems, a medical incinerator and a medical morgue.  In addition, this position is responsible for the medical gas system in the facility that provides critical oxygen and other gasses throughout the building.  The incumbent will be responsible for the monitoring and maintenance of the control systems, alarm systems and the remote monitoring systems. The Plant Operation Engineer has the duty of the on-going maintenance of the elevator system and ambulatory access doors.  The operating environment is much more critical and complex than an ordinary building requiring immediate response time and superior problem solving. 

To be invited for an interview, you must possess a 5th Class Stationary Engineer Certificate with several years’ experience working in large institutions, trouble shooting problems with heating and ventilations systems. Other key experience and competencies are; several years of experience as an Journeyman Plumber or Oil Heat Technician; Computer literate, familiar with Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft Word; Working experience with DDC Controls; Maintenance experience in a hospital or very large institutional buildings; Knowledge of Northern building practices; Working knowledge of metric systems; WHMIS Certificate; Class 5 Drivers license.

The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktitut, English and French.

Knowledge of Inuit language, communities, culture, land and Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit is an asset.
