Debt collection agencies must be licenced and abide by regulations

The Consumer Affairs Office of the Department of Community and Government Services would like to remind Nunavummiut that debt collection agencies must be licensed to operate in Nunavut and must adhere to the Debt Collection Practices regulations under the Consumer Protection Act.

The regulations under the Act define how these agencies can or cannot contact individuals as well as who can be contacted in relation to a debt.

Detailed information on debt collection practices can be found by visiting the website of the Consumer Affairs at this link: https://www.gov.nu.ca/community-and-government-services/news/debt-colle….

For further information and assistance, Nunavummiut can contact the Consumer Affairs office at 1-866-223-8139 or by emailing @email.
