Four new cases of COVID-19 in Arviat

Iqaluit, Nunavut (November 14, 2020) – As of 8 a.m. today, Nunavut has a total of eight positive cases of COVID-19. Four new cases have been identified in Arviat, bringing the community’s positive cases to five. All individuals are in isolation and doing well.

To date, 63 additional tests have been done in Sanikiluaq and have all yielded negative results. In Rankin Inlet, another 22 tests have been done, all with negative results. Contact tracing in Rankin Inlet, Sanikiluaq and Arviat continues, with the end goal to prevent community transmission.

It is important for Nunavummiut to be strict with the recommended public health measures – limit your contacts, wash your hands, keep physical distance whenever possible, do not shake hands, and stay home if you feel sick. Individual actions can impact everyone’s health.

Anyone who has reason to believe they have been exposed to COVID-19 is advised to call the COVID-hotline at 1-888-975-8601 between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. EST, or notify their community health centre right away, and immediately isolate at home for 14 days. Please do not go to the health centre in person.

All public health orders remain in effect, and are available at: www.gov.nu.ca/health/information/chief-public-health-officer-orders

An update will be provided at a press conference at 11 a.m., Monday, November 16.
