Iqaluit Justice Committee seeking members

The Iqaluit Alluriarvik Justice Committee is looking for four community members- two elders and two middle generation individuals.

Justice committees in Nunavut use a community-based approach to assist victims of crime and work with people who have caused harm by committing an offence.

Applicants should have knowledge and experience in restorative justice, and in dealing with social issues. They should also have knowledge of Inuit societal values, and should be sensitive to helping victims and offenders.
Training with respect to members’ roles and responsibilities will be provided. Committee members are volunteer positions, and receive honoraria for attending meetings.

Due to the territorial election on October 30, the selection of new members will be made by the next government.

If you are interested, please submit your resumé and criminal record check to Ineak Ipeelie, Iqaluit’s Community Justice Outreach Worker, at iipeelie@gov.nu.ca or call 867-975-6362 for further information. Deadline for submission is November 10, 2017.
