Historic Place Initiative

The Government of Canada and the Government of Nunavut are working together through the Historic Places Initiative (HPI) to help communities throughout our territory conserve one of our most precious resources - our historic places.

Nunavut's Historic Sites are important for many reasons. They give us perspective and insight on our history and provide us with knowledge, pride and respect. They connect us to our past and heritage and tell important stories. Our historic sites also connect us to the rest of the world by attracting people from different corners of the globe that want to learn about our past and culture.

These sites need to be recognized, cherished and protected in order to continue to give us perspective on the past, to guide the Nunavummiut of today to take us into the future with confidence and identity.
