Government of Nunavut Holiday Closure Days 

In December 2016, the Government of Nunavut (GN) is introducing Holiday Closure Days. 

All GN offices are closed on December 23, 28, 29 and 30 as Holiday Closure Days, with the exception of designated facilities that must stay open. December 26, 27 and January 2 are considered statutory holidays under the Public Service Act, and GN offices will also be closed on those days. 

The following GN facilities will be open throughout the holidays: 

  • Legal Registries 
  • all correctional facilities 
    • Baffin Correctional Centre 
    • Makigiarvik Correction Centre 
    • Nunavut Women Correctional Centre 
    • Isumaqsunngittukkuvik Youth Facility 
    • Uttaqivik 
    • Rankin Inlet Healing Facility 
    • Kugluktuk Ilavut Centre 

Please note that regional probation supervisors will be on standby to deal with breaches and any other issues, and emergency protection orders will be available throughout the holidays. 

Acute health care services will continue to be available during the holidays. Emergency Management Office/safety and procurement are available for emergencies only. The Iqaluit Centennial Library is open, with holiday hours. 

The Nunavut Court of Justice in Iqaluit is closed for regular business from December 23, 2016, to January 2, 2017, for the Government of Nunavut Holiday Closure Days. Only urgent matters will be dealt with during this time. If you need to file documents with court registry, you can only file via email. For email contacts at the court registry, please visit

All GN offices will reopen on Tuesday, January 3, 2017, for regular business. Happy holidays!
