QEC collective agreement ratified

IQALUIT, Nunavut (August 20, 2015) – The Government of Nunavut (GN) today ratified the new collective agreement between the Qulliq Energy Corporation (QEC) and the Nunavut Employees Union (NEU). The previous agreement expired on December 31, 2013. The agreement was ratified by the NEU on August 14, 2015. The new three-year collective agreement guarantees pay raises of two percent in the first year and 1.5 per cent in the second and third years.

"QEC extended a generous offer to the NEU to end the strike and to ensure our employees could return to work delivering reliable and efficient electrical services to Nunavummiut," said Minister of Finance and Minister responsible for Qulliq Energy Corporation, Keith Peterson. "The new agreement, together with existing benefits and QEC employee housing, is very competitive in the current economic environment."

"QEC extends our gratitude to all our customers for their patience and understanding during the strike," said QEC president Peter Tumilty.

Details of the collective agreement will be made public once finalized.
