Be aware of fox traps

Public Service Announcement
Be aware of fox traps

When walking on the land, lakes, or sea-ice – especially with dogs or small children – please remember that there could be fox traps.

It is your responsibility to keep your pets and children safe. If you let your dog off its leash, you do so at your own risk.

Trappers are also asked to avoid setting traps where people walk and spend time. As stated in the Wildlife Act and the Nunavut Agreement, right of access for trapping does not include any place within 1.6 kilometres, or one mile, of any buildings, structures or other facilities. Trapping may not be permitted in these areas.

Please note that it is illegal to spring or interfere with set traps.

For more information, please contact your local wildlife office. Contact details can be found on the Department of Environment website or in the phonebook.
