Environment Week celebrates biodiversity

It’s Environment Week from June 5 to 11 and to celebrate, the Government of Nunavut is initiating a number of activities to highlight this year’s theme – biodiversity.

To start, the made-in-Nunavut documentary Arctic Greenhouse is being made available for streaming, with the help of Nunavut Arctic College. We invite all Nunavummiut to watch it so they may learn about some of the challenges climate change poses to Nunavut’s diverse wildlife.

We’ll also be sharing social media posts so you can learn more about the biodiversity within our Arctic tundra. Be sure to ‘like’ the Government of Nunavut Facebook page and follow us on Twitter at @GOVofNUNAVUT to see them!

Nunavummiut are encouraged to make posters showcasing Nunavut’s biodiversity and share photos of them on social media. Tag the Government of Nunavut (@GOVofNUNAVUT) on social media for a chance to receive a prize pack including several books about the territory’s diverse plants and animals! Supplies are limited and the winners will be announced throughout Environment Week, so be sure to submit your entry sooner rather than later.

More details – including a list of the books participants may choose as their prize – are available on the Department of Environment website.
