Alcohol Education Committee Elections

Do you wish to be a community leader, and help manage alcohol education and regulation in your community?

Elections for Alcohol Education Committees (AECs) will take place on October 28, 2019. Committee members are responsible for promoting alcohol awareness, and regulating the purchase, sale and import of alcohol in their respective communities. AEC members are needed in these communities - Arctic Bay, Cape Dorset, Chesterfield Inlet, Clyde River, Hall Beach, Igloolik, Kimmirut, Naujaat, Pond Inlet, Qikiqtarjuaq, Resolute Bay and Whale Cove.

To be eligible as a candidate, you must be:

  • a Canadian citizen;
  • at least 18 years old on Election Day;
  • a resident of Nunavut for at least one year on Election Day; and
  • a resident of the municipality where you are declaring candidacy;

You are not eligible to be a candidate if you are:

  • a judge of any court, other than a citizenship court;
  • a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) or a Member of Parliament;
  • an election officer;
  • in prison;
  • convicted under any election act within the past 5 years; or
  • found by a court to not be able to make decisions for yourself.

Candidate applications are accepted from September 23 to 27, 2019 at 2 p.m.

To submit your application, download a Declaration of Candidacy form on the Elections Nunavut website at Fill out, sign and submit it to your local Returning Officer.
