Call for Members for the Nunavut Medical Registration Committee and Nunavut Midwifery Registration Committee

The Department of Health is seeking enthusiastic members of the public to serve on the Nunavut Medical Registration Committee and the Nunavut Midwifery Registration Committee.

The Nunavut Medical Registration Committee is mandated by the Medical Profession Act to review and make decisions on applications for licensing and registration of medical professionals under the Medical Profession Act. This committee is seeking one member of the public who is an employee of the Government of Nunavut (GN) and one member who is not employed by the GN.

Applicants should have a strong interest in regulatory issues and be prepared to devote 1-1.5 hours every second week to review applications though a teleconference meeting. Experience in a health-related field would be an asset. Both positions have a term length of two years.

The Nunavut Midwifery Registration Committee is mandated by the Midwifery Profession Act to review and make decisions on applications for licensing and renewal of midwifery practitioners under the Midwifery Profession Act. This committee is seeking two applicants who are not registered midwives and who are not employees of the GN.

Applicants should have a strong interest in the profession of midwifery and the regulatory process and be prepared to devote 2-4 hours a month for a teleconference meeting. A knowledge of traditional Inuit midwifery practice is an asset. Incumbents will assist in developing midwifery continuing competence and professional development including incorporating traditional midwifery knowledge into practice.

Individuals interested in either of these opportunities should submit their resume, letter of interest, and references by October 31, 2020 to Barbara Harvey, Registrar, Department of Health, at bharvey@gov.nu, or by fax to 867-982-7640.

Copies of the Medical Profession Act and the Midwifery Profession Act may be provided on request and are also available at https://www.nunavutlegislation.ca/en/consolidated-law/current?title=M.
