Practical Administrative Skills Program – MS Teams

The Practical Administrative Skills Program is comprised of four courses focusing on supporting employees seeking to develop their skills in the following areas listed below. 

Participants registering for this program will only need to fill out one application to be enrolled in all four courses, and a GN certificate of completion will be issued for those that complete the entirety of this program.

For employees only interested in taking individual courses within the program, their application will be accepted and waitlisted as priority will be given to those registered for the whole program.    Waitlisted participants will be contacted closer to the course dates if there are any spots available.   

Course 1: Taking Effective Minutes – September 16-17, 2021, 1:30 – 5 pm EST

This course provides techniques for planning meeting agendas and taking effective minutes. Participants examine various models for presenting minutes clearly and succinctly. The course includes pre-meeting and post-meeting tips that make minute-taking more efficient.

Participants in this course will learn to:

  • Apply a process for taking minutes
  • Use techniques to improve speed and accuracy in making notes during meetings
  • Translate meeting notes into polished minutes, using various minutes formats

Course 2: Project Management Skills for Administrative Professionals – September 21-22, 2021, 9:30 – 4:30 pm EST

Administrative professionals are often asked to take on a project from beginning to end. These projects can range from conferences and physical relocations to major events and change management. To be successful in these assignments, apply the skills of project management.

Participants in this course will learn to:

  • Take on complex projects with confidence
  • Bring projects in on time, on budget and meet expectations
  • Plan for the unexpected, manage risks and find opportunities for added value
  • Harness the energy of teams to build better projects
  • Track projects to identify variances and adjust appropriately
  • Use the language of project management

Course 3: Report Writing – September 23, 2021- 9:30 – 4:30 pm EST

This workshop will help you produce powerful reports and winning proposals in significantly less time. Obtain planning techniques, guidelines for writing clearly, grammatically, and concisely, and tips for increasing impact and persuasiveness. The course is hands-on and fun, with opportunities to practice and improve. You may bring samples of your work for review by the instructor.

At the end of this workshop, participants will learn to:

  • Plan your proposals and reports clearly and logically
  • Define your reader’s needs and interest
  • Write persuasively to meet your reader’s needs
  •  Write clearly, concisely and with impact
  • Increase your power and persuasiveness
  •  Develop a professional style and tone

Course 4: Administrative Office Procedures – September 28, 2021, 9:30 – 4:30 pm EST. 

Effective administrative office procedures are essential to the success of every organization. Participants will learn how an administrative office procedure binder demonstrates professionalism and efficiency in an office setting. Administrative strategies and procedures are a vital connection between an organization’s vision and its everyday operations.

Participants in this course will learn to:

  • Organize a binder for quick reference and utilization
  • Develop procedures
  • Prepare checklists
  • Collect the correct tools

Important Message: 

All GN employees are welcome to register for this program (with a limited number of spots available), but the courses will be based on Eastern Standard-Times (EST).  Participants are expected to complete the program in its entirety and follow the time zone and times set out for the courses.

Completed application forms must be downloaded, printed and signed by the employee and the employee’s supervisor, then emailed or faxed. All registrations are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.
