World Teachers’ Day 2021

Today, October 5, 2021, is World Teachers’ Day, a time to reflect on and recognize the hard work of Nunavut’s dedicated teachers and school staff.

Since 1994, World Teachers’ Day has commemorated the anniversary of the signing of the United Nations’ 1966 ILO/UNESCO Recommendation Concerning the Status of Teachers, establishing the rights and responsibilities of teachers worldwide.

This year the United Nations has chosen the theme “Teachers at the heart of education recovery”. Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, Nunavut teachers and school staff have shown their creativity in developing safe and engaging ways to deliver in-class and remote instruction to their students. As schools opened this fall, teachers’ plans for recovery learning have become essential to student success.

Nunavummiut are asked to show appreciation to their community’s teachers and school staff. Please take a moment and thank a Nunavut teacher today!
