Reporting to the Manager Solutions Delivery, the Structured Cabling Technician will perform installation, testing, troubleshooting of wiring problems and modifications of structured cabling systems within Government of Nunavut offices, telecommunication rooms and communities throughout Nunavut.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: installation and termination of UTP structured cabling systems including but not limited to CAT 5e/6 cabling and cable panels into new and existing buildings following GN structured cabling guidelines; installation of structured cabling raceways, cable trays and outlets/wall jacks; test and verification of structured cabling installations including documentations of the results; work on identified Internal IPS related projects as well as contribute to the post mortem analysis following structured cabling problems or failures.

The ability to read and analyze floor plans, electrical drawings and blueprints as well as the ability to understand structural cabling guidelines and processes are required for this position.

The knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this job are usually obtained through a high school diploma, along with current certification for either Belden or Nordix UTP structured cabling systems. Three (3) years of recent experience in UTP structured cabling installations including termination, testing, troubleshooting, cable trays and raceways and endpoint/wall jacks is also required for this position.

Oral and written fluency in Inuktitut as well as experience with fibre optic cabling installations and termination combined with the ability and certification to work with copper or fibre optic cables as well as other network equipment are considered as assets.

In addition, this position requires a valid driver’s license with a clean driving abstract.

Equivalencies that consist of an acceptable combination of education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered.

Knowledge of Inuit language, communities, culture, land and Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit is an asset.
