The Nunavut Housing Corporation is an agency of the Government of Nunavut which serves the housing needs of one of the fastest growing and youngest populations in Canada. NHC’s mandate is to create, co-ordinate, and administer housing programs to provide fair access to a range of affordable housing options to families and individuals in Nunavut.  NHC has recently launched The Nunavut 3000 Strategy, (www.igluliuqatigiingniq.ca) which is a collaboration between the government and its partners to deliver 3,000 new units across the housing continuum by 2030. 

Reporting to the Manager, Community Development - Maintenance, the position is responsible for assisting with the overall planning, implementation, co-ordination, administration and development of the housing repair and maintenance delivery capacity of 13 Local Housing Organizations (LHOs) through assessment, planning, training support, assistance, and monitoring to enable the partner to directly delivery technical housing programs funded by the Nunavut Housing Corporation.  The position provides the overall co-ordination of public and staff housing retrofits, Modernization and Improvement projects, and the maintenance of corporate assets in the communities of the region.  As required, the position also provides for the administration and delivery of repair and maintenance programs.  The position provides support to the Technical, Programs and Staff Housing Divisions within the District Office as well as the LHO Managers and Maintenance Managers in areas related to optimizing the efficiency and effectiveness of the NHC’s Maintenance Management program.  The position is integral in reducing the overall cost within the NHC’s housing portfolios. 

The successful candidate requires a degree relevant to the position such as Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, etc., plus 3 years of related experience in the construction industry as well as experience working with Microsoft office programs including EXCEL.  Acceptable combinations of education and work experience will also be considered.  Asset qualifications include building inspection experience, designation, or certification as a provincial or municipal building official, and experience related to cold climate building design and construction. Equivalency such as minimum 7-years experience as a journeyman in one of the residential building trades along with proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite would also be considered.

The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktut, English and French. Applicants may submit their resume in any of the official languages of Nunavut. Fluency in more than one of Nunavut’s official languages would be considered an asset. Knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land, Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, Inuktut and experience working in a northern cross-cultural environment are also considered assets.
