Your role - Reporting to the Supervisor, Children and Family Services you will be representing the Department of Family Services in all matters related to enhancing the overall health of individuals and families in the assigned community. As a professional in the community, you will be required to work with other associated professional bodies, including the RCMP, Mental Health, Medical Personnel, Education, Justice and various community resources.  You will be considered an essential service provider of the community. Key focus areas you would be responsible for include: 

  • Program Delivery
  • Child Welfare
  • Adult Protection Services
  • Individual and Family/Group Counseling
  • Aged/physically challenged Services
  • Providing a liaison services at large in the Community

Who we are - Our Department is responsible for developing and implementing strategic programs and initiatives for the residents of Nunavut in the areas of child and family services, career development and training, adoptions, income assistance, and poverty reduction. These services aim to help strengthen and ensure the well-being of the residents of Nunavut and its communities.

Community Social Services Workers play a crucial role within the child and family services division. These positions are located in each of Nunavut’s 25 communities.

What is required?   

  • A Diploma in Social Work, plus 1 year of practical child protection experience.  A Bachelor’s degree from a recognized university plus 1 year of practical child protection experience is preferred.
  • A valid class 5 driver’s license or the ability to obtain one within 4 months of hire is a condition of employment.
  • A Vulnerable Sector check is also a requirement.
  • The successful candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a Child and Family Services Appointment.
