This employment opportunity is restricted to Nunavut Inuit only.

Under the direction of the Languages Commissioner, the Executive Assistant provides senior administrative support and secretarial services to the Office of the Languages Commissioner (OLC). You will be responsible for providing a full range of support services to OLC including, but not limited to: executive administrative support to the Director of Strategic Planning and Policy, Investigation/Research Officers, Public Affairs Officer and Inuit Language Protection Act Liaison Officer; leave and attendance records maintenance; travel arrangements, personnel records and file management. Strong organizational skills are required for this position.

The Executive Assistant will be responsible for receiving visitors and offering assistance where appropriate, and to handle correspondence and other documents for signature by the Languages Commissioner  or the Director of Strategic Planning and Policy. Sensitivity and discretion are essential for success in this position. You must be computer literate, as well as have good interpersonal skills. You will be required at times to handle confidential documents, ensure that invoices and purchase orders are accurate, and to check the timesheets of casual staff. You will need to be motivated and able to work with minimal supervision in this job.

The successful candidate of this position will have certificate in Office Administration, or related field, plus two (2) years of related work experience. The incumbent must be fluent in both Inuktitut and English, verbally and in writing.

The official languages of Nunavut are Inuktitut, Inuinnaqtun, English and French. Knowledge of communities, culture, land and Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit is an asset.

Equivalencies that consist of an acceptable combination of education and experience would be considered.
