Reporting to the Manager, Financial Advisory Services and Reporting, the Financial Analyst is responsible for the departmental year end reporting process and a wide range of departmental financial management services to ensure the expenditures are effectively planned, incurred and correctly coded. This position distributes monthly expenditure and payroll reports to various managers and ensures they are reconciled and corrected. The Financial Analyst assists with year-end procedures and reporting for headquarters divisions and regional offices.
This position reviews documents related to infrastructure obligations and progress payments to address all facets of municipal operations. The Financial Analyst analyzes general ledger accounts for variance reporting, identifies trends and forecasts and advises management on proposed plans of action and adjustments within approved departmental appropriations.
The knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this job are usually obtained through a recognized undergraduate Degree in Business Administration/Commerce, Finance/Accounting or a related field with a minimum of two (2) years related budgeting, accounting and financial management experience. The completion of recognized professional accounting designation (CPA) will be considered an asset.
The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktitut, Inuinnaqtun, English and French. Fluency in more than one of Nunavut’s official language is an asset. Knowledge of Inuit language, communities, culture, land and Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit is an asset.
Equivalencies that consist of an acceptable combination of education and experience may be considered.
