Reporting to the Housekeeping Supervisor, the Housekeeping Assistant is responsible for ensuring all areas and departments of the facility are cleaned and maintained in accordance with regulations, policies and departmental procedures. The position helps to ensure that the facility is free from contaminants and is well presented to the general public, clients and staff.
The Housekeeping Assistant provides service to all departments located within the facility and is a key member of the health Care Team. As a front line staff for infectious control, staff ensures that the principles of infection control and cross contamination are strictly adhered to. Key areas of concern include Operating Rooms as well as two Birthing Rooms, Nursery and Ward areas. The incumbent will also be required to check to ensure that areas of the facility are secure when duties are completed e.g. office doors are closed and locked as well as ensuring housekeeping equipment and areas are clean and housekeeping items are safely stored at the end of the shift.
The knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this job are usually obtained with a minimum Grade 8, or equivalent. One year housekeeping and/or laundry experience in a commercial or institutional setting is considered an asset.
The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktitut, Inuinnaqtun, English and French. Fluency in more than one of Nunavut’s official language is an asset. Knowledge of Inuit language, communities, culture, land and Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit is an asset.
Equivalencies that consist of an acceptable combination of education and experience may be considered.
