Reporting to the Housekeeping Supervisor, the Housekeeping Assistant is responsible for providing cleaning service to all departments located within the facility and is a key member of the Health Care Team.

The incumbent takes the lead in maintaining the cleanliness of the hospital and understanding policies and procedures around mixing and usage of chemicals. The incumbent will also be required to co-ordinate daily/weekly housekeeping services with nursing services.

An in-depth knowledge of using cleaning equipment safely and effectively is required for this position. The incumbent must also be able to understand and implement Workplace Hazardous Material Information System policies and procedures (W.H.M.I.S) and be able to interpret Hospital/Departmental policies and procedures and implement them.

The knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this job are usually obtained with a minimum Grade 8, or equivalent.

The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktitut (Inuinnaqtun), English and French.

Proficiency in Inuktitut language is an asset.

Equivalencies that consist of an acceptable combination of education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered.

Knowledge of Inuit language, communities, culture, land and Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit is an asset.
