Reporting to the Director, Support Services, this position provides leadership and direction to all laboratory staff.  The Manager ensures the timely provision of comprehensive diagnostic laboratory services in accordance with established standards of practice (Canadian Society of Medical Laboratory Sciences) and the philosophy and objectives of the Department of Health.  The Manager may be required to provide the Laboratory Assistant and Laboratory Technologist support and coverage in order to ensure efficient and continual flow of samples for analysis.

The incumbent will ensure all aspects of the laboratories in Nunavut adhere to all standards and practices and are in compliance with accreditation guidelines.  Will develop operational and capital budgets and review monthly expenditure reports and monitor all equipment and supplies.

The successful candidate will have an ability to recognize atypical laboratory findings, and a demonstrated ability to effectively supervise staff, organize workflow, conduct performance reviews and identify individual training needs.

The successful candidate should possess as a minimum, a Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology from a Canadian Institution.  They must be registered with the Canadian Society of Medical Laboratory Science (RT certificate in all areas.) and a minimum of five years of combined experience of Chemistry, Microbiology, Hematology and Transfusion Medicine along with two years of experience as a Manager of Laboratory Operations. Advanced certification (ART) or a Bachelor of Science Degree is an asset.

The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktitut, Inuinnaqtun, English and French.  Fluency in more than one of Nunavut’s official language is an asset.  Knowledge of Inuit language, communities, culture, land and Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit is an asset.

Equivalencies that consist of an acceptable combination of education and experience may be considered.

Current Indeterminate Government of Nunavut employees who apply and are successful on this term position may be offered an internal transfer assignment for the duration of the term.
