Reporting to the Manager, Health Information Management, this position is located in Iqaluit, within Iqaluit Health Services. The incumbent provides transcription services to all categories of medical staff in the Baffin region, including: family practitioners, medical residents, general and specialty surgeons, psychiatrists and various other medical specialty physicians. The incumbent works as an integral part of the team responsible for managing patient care information and has direct impact on the day-to-day operations of compiling, preserving and disseminating information essential to the delivery of health services to the public.

The incumbent transcribes medical dictation in order to provide a permanent record of patient care. Maintains records system of medical dictation in order to ensure adequate control of retention and distribution of patient care information. Coordinates activities with coworkers and contract transcription agencies in order to maintain production levels conducive to efficient workflow. Operates designated word processing and patient information systems, computer applications, dictation and transcription equipment, as directed to effectively complete assignments.

The incumbant will have an in-depth knowledge of medical transcription practices, medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, excellent language skills; including spelling, punctuation and grammar, excellent listening skills and eye-hand-auditory coordination, ability to operate word-processing and database management software, dictation-transcription equipment, and general office equipment.

The knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this job are usually obtained through a recognized Medical Transcriptionist Certificate from a post-secondary institution or equivalent combination and experience.

The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktitut (Inuinnaqtun), English and French.

Fluency in more than one of Nunavut’s official language is an asset.

Equivalencies that consist of an acceptable combination of education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered.

Knowledge of Inuit language, communities, culture, land and Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit is an asset.

Term until August 17, 2018.  Current Indeterminate Government of Nunavut employees that apply and are successful on this term position may be offered an internal transfer assignment for the duration of the term.
