The Nurse Practitioner (NP) provides residents with advanced health assessment, diagnosis, intervention and follow-up care in order to promote, protect and restore health and to prevent and reduce the incidence of disease, disability and death. The incumbent practices in accordance with the Registered Nurses Association of Northwest Territories and Nunavut (RNANT/NU) acts, standards, and regulations, as well as with the Department of Health Policies, guidelines and mandate to ensure residents have access to timely, professional and sustainable health services required to maintain optimal health. The incumbent would also be required to effectively triage client’s health care needs.

The NP provides a comprehensive community health service in conjunction with the health care team and works within the context of primary health care to improve the capacity of clients and communities to adapt to, respond or control, life’s challenges and changes.  

The knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this job are obtained through a Bachelor of Science in nursing from a recognized university and graduate Level Advanced Nursing Practice degree; or a Certificate in Advanced Nursing Practice, at least 5 years of direct nursing practice with 1 year recent Nurse Practitioner experience. The incumbent must be eligible to registered with RNANT/NU and have recent CPR with annual re-certification.

Consideration will be given to those who completed the Nurse Practitioner competency challenge through a Nursing Regulatory/Licensing body; 

Assets include; Cross cultural experience, BTLS, ACLS, NRP, ALARM, STABLE, Fetal monitoring, pelvic examination, labor and delivery experience with advanced obstetrical training.

Knowledge of Inuit language, communities, culture, land and Inuit Qaujimajatugangit is an asset.

For full-time, permanent nurses, recruitment bonuses include: $5,000 on start date, $5,000 at 18 months of service and $10,000 at 30 months of service. Additional premiums include a $9,000 Annual Frontline Allowance and a $375 Monthly Retention Bonus totaling $4,500 per year.
