Reporting to the Office Manager, Iqaluit Public Health, the Public Health Programs Assistant supports the efforts of the Public Health Team by providing nurse assistance, clerical duties, community liaison and delegated functions to assist with the operation of Public Health Programs including assisting with TB screening and treatment.
The incumbent’s performance directly impacts the Public Health Programs and the public’s perception of services provided by health professionals. Other duties of the position include assisting with Direct Observed Medication Therapy (DOT) both on site and throughout the community, preparing medications, administering, observing and accurately recording that medication was or was not taken.
The knowledge, skills, and experience required for this job are usually obtained through the successful completion of Grade 12 along with one (1) year experience in an office environment. A valid driver’s license is also required for the position. Experience working with Health records, in medical environment or related training are considered as an asset.
The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktitut, Inuinnaqtun, English and French. Fluency in Inuktitut and English is a requirement. Knowledge of Inuit language, communities, culture, land and Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, and French bilingualism are considered assets.
Equivalencies that consist of an acceptable combination of education and experience may be considered.
