Reporting to the Director Population Health; this position brings nutrition expertise to the Regional Health Team and health promotion partners. As the successful candidate you ensure that nutrition programs developed and/or delivered in the region, are evidence-based, take a population health approach, and are guided by best-practice principles. As part of the team of territorial nutrition professionals, you ensure that IQ Principles and territorial priorities are incorporated into regional and community programs, and participate in working groups and committees that support the development of nutrition programs and policies in the Region and the Territory.

As the successful candidate you are required to analyze information, identify and consider options, make decisions at times in absence of guidelines, and to make professional recommendations to senior managers. You will also provide collaborative leadership for regional health promotion programming. The delivery of this programming at the community level is shared with other regional personnel, such as Community Health Representatives (CHR’s) and wellness program workers. In partnership with other regional and territorial nutrition and population health personnel, lead nutrition health promotion activities to teach and promote health food habits and lifestyles that will decrease incidence of disease and optimize health, with due regards to country food, traditional life-styles and food security by providing in-service training for health professional such as CHR’s and nurses.

This position contains an administrative component and therefore requires skills in identifying needs, defining and evaluating options, conceptualizing and creating programs and project plans with timeframes and developing proposals for funding. You will be working closely with CHR’s, nurses, community members and individuals in various organizations; therefore, the ability to work collaboratively and effectively in an interprofessional and multi-cultural setting. You also must have excellent verbal and written communication skills; problem-solving skills and creative thinking; excellent interpersonal, conflict resolution and facilitation skills; minimal secretarial support is available to this position and significant communication, information gathering and resource development are done via computer, e-mail and the internet. A high level of computer literacy is required as is the ability to learn and use software, such as word processing, graphics packages and spreadsheet.    

You as the incumbent must be a Registered Dietitian; registration with a provincial regulatory body is a requirement for this position. A membership with Dietitians of Canada is desired, but not a requirement for the position. Three years of experience in community nutrition program management OR a Master level degree with 1-2 years related experience is preferred.

The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktitut, English and French.

Equivalencies that consist of an acceptable combination of education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered.

Knowledge of Inuit language, communities, culture, land and Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit is an asset.
