Reporting to the Manager, Taxation & Insurance, this position is responsible for the effective administration of the Payroll Tax Act and the Property Assessment and Taxation Act. The Officer ensures all documentation and remittances are administered as required under the appropriate Act, Regulations and Policies Procedures Manuals. The incumbent is responsible for assisting in the processing of approximately $110 million in annual taxation revenues and to liaise with taxpayers, employers and government officials.
Some of the responsibilities and expectations of this position include reviewing tax returns for correctness and completeness, ensuring the correct amount of taxes have been collected and remitted based upon the information contained in the return, and to enter information from transactions into the tax database. You will assist in the investigation, audit and assessment on non-compliant taxpayers, and maintain a central filing system.
The successful candidate will have a High School Diploma plus two (2) years’ of related experience in a computerized environment. Previous work experience in the tax or insurance fields is an asset. You must be able to communicate in both Inuktitut and English in this position. The ability to speak French would be an asset.
Knowledge of Inuit language, communities, culture, land and Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit is an asset.
Equivalencies that consist of an acceptable combination of education and experience may be considered.
