This employment opportunity is restricted to residents of Iqaluit only.

Reporting to the Manager, Human Resources, the Training and Development Specialist (Specialist) will develop, implement, monitor and evaluate comprehensive training workshops, resource planning, recruitment and leadership programs in order to attract, retain and develop, train and mentor employees for the Department of Community and Government Services (CGS). The incumbent will provide advice and guidance to CGS managers in develop and implementing the Inuit Employment Plan (IEP). The Specialist will research into specialized professional development courses and training programs for managers and employees IEP implementation.

The Specialist contributes to the to the organization through the training and development of all CGS employees. The incumbent provides career development and training opportunities for CGS employees, with particular emphasis placed on IEP implementation as prescribed under Article 23 of the Nunavut Agreement. The Specialist will assist the department in the application of Inuit Employment initiatives and Article 23. The Specialist will serve as an advisor to the directors and managers throughout the region on matters relating to overall staff development and effective training practices.

The knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this job are usually obtained through a diploma in a related field from a recognized post-secondary institution , plus two (2) years of work-related experience.  Progress toward a professional designation in a related field from a recognized professional accreditation body is an asset. Related course work from a recognized post-secondary institution is an asset. Related work experience in the private or public sector will be considered an asset. 

The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktut, English and French. Applicants may submit their resume in any of the official languages of Nunavut. Fluency in more than one of Nunavut’s official languages would be considered an asset. Knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land, Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, Inuktut and experience working in a northern cross-cultural environment are also considered assets.
