The Training Specialist is accountable to the Director, Children and Family Services and will contribute to the Government of Nunavut programs, policies, and legislation to ensure the provision of the highest level quality in all facets of Community Social Services Worker (CSSW) training and Children and Family Services division staff training, supervision and residential care services in and out of Nunavut. This position will greatly impact quality control measures where practice is concerned by ensuring the workers receive training that is consistent and based on best practices.

The Training Specialist is responsible for the coordination of the CSSW training and Children and Family Services staff training, program management duties and Out of Territory client residential care, and for the creation of various learning opportunities.  This will include foster parent training and other training as per divisional/programming requirements, working with human resources to ensure training is compatible with the Department’s retention and recruitment strategy, and liaising with and representing Nunavut at all level of government and non-government groups to jointly identify and address priority issues and concern regarding Inuit clients and personnel.

The ideal candidate will have a recognized degree in Social Work, Social Sciences, Education or a related field. A minimum of three (3) years’ directly related experience is required, along with experience in adult education models.

The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktitut, Inuinnaqtun, English and French. Fluency in more than one of Nunavut’s official languages is an asset. Knowledge of Inuit language, communities, culture, land and Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit would be considered an asset.

Equivalencies that consist of an acceptable combination of education and experience may be considered.
