The Travel Specialist is responsible for the planning, coordinating, managing and accounting of timely and cost effective travel for Medical Travel and Department of Health staff, by arranging timely, accurate and high quality travel, accommodation & meals, to a location where appropriate treatment can be provided.
The position is a key member of the Travel program division. Working closely with Department of Health staff, patients, escorts, airlines, and hotels, the position makes decisions regarding timely movement of travelers, and recommends use of appropriate aircraft and accommodation providers. The success of this incumbent, as a member of the travel team, in providing the best available and most cost effective level of travel services has a major impact on the credibility of the program and public confidence in the Nunavut Health system.
The knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this position are usually acquired through Grade 12 Diploma or equivalent, plus (1) one year experience in an office setting. Experience in a travel office is an asset. The incumbent must be proficient with computer software applications including Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook along with strong problem solving skills and customer service skills.
The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktitut, Inuinnaqtun, English and French. Fluency in more than one of Nunavut’s official language Inuktitut or Inuinnaqtun is required. Knowledge of Inuit language, communities, culture, land and Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit is an asset.
Equivalencies that consist of an acceptable combination of education and experience may be considered.
