November is Adoptions Awareness Month

Department of Family Services would like to recognize, honour and celebrate Nunavut’s adoptive families. There are many ways to become a parent and these incredible families have chosen to welcome children and youth into their hearts and their homes through the adoption process.

Adoptive families provide a safe and welcoming environment for children and youth to learn and grow. By experiencing loving and caring surroundings, children are more equipped to reach their full potential. Every child and every youth have the right to a safe and loving home.

In Nunavut, there are three types of adoptions available to families: Custom, Departmental, and Private. These options provide an opportunity for children to have a forever family and an opportunity to stay connected with their culture and community.

If you or somebody you know is interested in fostering or adoption, please visit the Department of Family Wellness website for more information or contact the number below.

For more information regarding fostering and adoption please refer to the Government of Nunavut website https://www.gov.nu.ca/family-services/programs-services/adoptions or contact the Adoption Department at 867-975-5200.
