Office of the Public Guardian and Trustee
The Public Trustee administers trusts on behalf of the estates of Nunavummiut who pass away without a will, minors, and persons who need protection because of disability when next-of-kin are not able to act as trustee. The office pursues benefits that its clients may be entitled to, such as Registered Disability Savings Plans and claims settlements.
The Public Guardian’s mandate includes guardianship of adult persons who are incapable of managing their personal affairs. This is accomplished by making decisions for their health and personal care in close consultation with the clients and their families.

Coroner’s Office
The Office of the Chief Coroner investigates the circumstances surrounding all reportable deaths to determine the identity of the deceased and the facts concerning the deaths.
The service is supported by coroners in the communities, the RCMP, and various other agencies that work closely with the Coroner’s Office. The Coroner’s Office is also responsible for arranging with southern providers for such services as autopsies and toxicology testing.

Residential Tenancies Office
The Residential Tenancies Office receives, investigates, mediates and adjudicates complaints under the Residential Tenancies Act. An order of the Residential Tenancies Office can be filed in the Nunavut Court of Justice and enforced as an Order of the Court.

Labour Standards Compliance Office
The Labour Standards Compliance Office administers the Labour Standards Act and related legislation, which establish minimum conditions of employment for non-government employees in Nunavut. The Labour Standards Officer receives and makes decisions and orders with respect to labour standards complaints and permit requests and conducts inspections.

The Labour Standards Board is an administrative tribunal established by to the Labour Standards Act to hear appeals of decisions or orders of the Labour Standards Officer. Members of the Board are appointed to by the Minister of Justice.

Forfeiture Office
The Forfeiture Office administers the Unlawful Property Forfeiture Act. The overall purpose of the Act and the forfeiture program are to deter unlawful activities and to compensate victims or reinvest forfeited funds to support community-based wellness programs. It is primarily a crime prevention initiative and supports the government’s alcohol harm reduction strategy. The office is run by the Director of Forfeiture.

Nunavut Criminal Code Review Board
The Nunavut Criminal Code Review Board determines the placement of a person who has been found by the criminal court to be unfit to stand trial or not criminally responsible on account of mental disorder. The board decides whether the person should be detained in a hospital, discharged into the community with conditions or in the case of the not criminally responsible, absolutely discharged.

Nunavut Human Rights Tribunal
The Nunavut Human Rights Tribunal is a quasi-judicial body that is responsible for hearing and mediating human rights complaints in Nunavut under the Nunavut Human Rights Act.

Legal Services Board (legal aid)
The Legal Services Board of Nunavut, established under the Legal Services Act, is responsible for ensuring that all eligible Nunavummiut receive legal aid and related services. The Legal Services Board provides confidential legal services, advice, and representation on criminal, family, and civil/poverty matters through a blended staff and private lawyer model. The model is supported by a network of Inuit Court Workers.
The Board is also responsible for overseeing the operation of the following regional legal aid clinics:
- Maliiganik Tukisiiniakvik in the Qikiqtaaluk Region
- Kivalliq Legal Services in the Kivalliq Region
- Kitikmeot Law Centre in the Kitikmeot Region
These clinics provide legal services, court worker services, referral services and public legal education and information in their respective regions.
