Call for Members – Nunavut Midwifery Registration Committee

Last updated Monday, March 4, 2024

The Department of Health is seeking enthusiastic individuals interested in serving on the Nunavut Midwifery Registration Committee.

The Nunavut Midwifery Registration Committee is mandated by the Midwifery Profession Act to review and make decisions on applications for licensing and renewal of midwifery practitioners in Nunavut. This committee also advises the Minister of Health on matters of policy, standards and legislation respecting services that may be provided by registered midwives in Nunavut.

The committee is seeking:

  • 2 members who are not registered midwives or Government of Nunavut (GN) employees.
  • 1 registered midwife in good standing under the Midwifery Profession Act or registered and in good standing with another Canadian regulatory authority.

Applicants should have a strong interest in the regulatory process and be prepared to dedicate about three hours each month for a videoconference meeting. A knowledge of traditional Inuit midwifery practice is an asset.

Public members to the committee receive an honorarium for each meeting attended and registered midwife members receive an honorarium if they are not employed or under contract to the GN at the time of the meeting.

For those interested in this opportunity, please submit your resume and a letter of interest to Barbara Harvey at @email by March 15, 2024.
