Department of Health monitoring Iqaluit water after fuel smell reported

The Department of Health would like to let the citizens of Iqaluit know that they are working with the city to address the smell of fuel oil in residents’ water. What is known right now is that there were levels of fuel oil that entered the system.

However, those levels are below the Health Canada Drinking Water values for health. Currently the GN is working with the city, and both are doing additional sampling. Presently we recommend that if you smell fuel oil, contact the water quality hotline (867-979-5603).

We will continue to monitor and work to improve the system.

We will follow up with an update on Monday, January 16, 2022.
