Iqaluit, Nunavut (March 24, 2022) – Today, Minister of Health, John Main is proclaiming March 24, World Tuberculosis (TB) Day in partnership with Nunavut Tunngavik Inc (NTI) and the Government of Canada.

“Tuberculosis continues to be a significant health concern in Nunavut,” said Minister Main. “I am pleased to join with NTI and the Government of Canada to officially proclaim World Tuberculosis Day in Nunavut. This proclamation is an additional recognition of the work the Government of Nunavut, along with our partners at NTI and the federal government continue, continue to put in to fighting Tuberculosis.”

Working toward a TB free Nunavut requires a multi-agency and cross-departmental effort to improve determinants of health, which include improved housing conditions, improved food security, economic development and continued access to testing and treatment. TB can be treated and cured with antibiotics. If you or someone you know is experiencing symptoms of TB, please call your local health centre and they will be able to advise on the best course of action.
