Health announces next tuberculosis prevention screening clinic in Cape Dorset

Cape Dorset, Nunavut (January 8, 2019) – The Government of Nunavut (GN) Department of Health has announced that Cape Dorset will be the location for the third community-wide tuberculosis (TB) prevention screening clinic, scheduled to start in February 2019.

“The screening clinics in Qikiqtarjuaq and Whale Cove provided us with invaluable insight and experience that will continue to inform and drive our efforts in eliminating TB in Nunavut”, said Minister George Hickes. “We are strong and united in our fight against TB thanks to the continued support from Nunavut’s communities and valued partners.”
Community-wide screening clinics continue to be a proactive and effective way to screen and treat latent TB, as well as raise awareness and understanding about transmission and prevention, and encourage community mobilization.

In Cape Dorset, screening appointments will be organized by household, encouraging community members to come to the clinic at the Cape Dorset community hall. The clinic is expected to be operational for 11 to 12 weeks.

The Department of Health will once again be supported by resources from the Public Health Agency of Canada among other valued GN contributors, external organizations and health professionals mobilized from across the country. Funding will be provided by our partners, the federal government, Nunavut Tunngavik Inc. and Inuit Tapiriit Kanatami
Additional information will be provided directly to the community through community radio and the Hamlet of Cape Dorset. For more information about TB go to:
