Nunavut responds to disaster in Nepal

Premier Peter Taptuna released the following statement:

“The Government of Nunavut is responding to the devastating earthquake in Nepal by contributing $25,000 to the Canadian Red Cross for urgent relief efforts.

In Sivumut Abluqta, we strive for healthy families and resilient communities. In times of great disaster, our community extends beyond Nunavut’s borders. Inuit Societal Values guide us to serve and to provide for those in need. Today, we help the Nepalese who have been devastated by this event.

The people of Nunavut are known for pulling together in times of need. Nunavut also responded to the call for help following the 2004 Asian tsunami, the 2010 earthquake in Haiti and the 2013 typhoon in the Philippines.

On behalf of all Nunavummiut, I extend our condolences to all those affected by this tragedy. I encourage all Nunavummiut to help the people of Nepal, however they can.”
