Recipes wanted for country food cookbook
Do you have a favorite char, turbot or seal recipe or cooking story? The Department of Environment invites you to share it with us for a chance to be featured in the department’s upcoming country food cookbook!
The goal of the book is to promote local seafood products, celebrate Nunavut fisheries and cultural harvesting activities, and to preserve Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit. Hardcopies will be distributed for free to organizations across the territory.
Recipes can be traditional or modern and for any meal of the day. They can vary from main dishes to appetizers, drying methods to filleting techniques, or simple preparations for every occasion, like camping and community feasts. Stories shared could be about your first hunt, your connection to country food, or how you learned to make pitsi from an Elder.
To submit a recipe or story, e-mail @email or call the Fisheries and Sealing division at 867-975-7760. Consent must be provided for your recipe with your name to be published in the final book. Written and oral submissions will be accepted until August 31, 2018. All featured submissions will receive a $25 honorarium and a digital copy of the cookbook.
