Additional COVID-19 vaccine doses approved for 50-plus and immunocompromised children

The Government of Nunavut’s Department of Health, in response to recent guidance from the National Advisory Committee on Immunizations, has begun offering a second COVID-19 booster shot (fourth dose) to all Nunavummiut 50 or older. This additional booster shot is available to individuals 50-plus who had received their third dose of the vaccine 4.5 months or more ago.

Booster shots (third dose) of the vaccine are also available to children aged five to 11 who are moderately or severely immunocompromised, four to eight weeks after their second dose. Additionally, booster shots (third dose) continue to be available to all Nunavummiut 12 years and older.

The additional doses of the vaccine help increase protection against COVID-19. Recent evidence has shown that vaccine effectiveness against COVID-19 infection decreases over time. Appointments for COVID-19 vaccines can be made by calling your local health centre or Public Health unit.

Masks continue to be mandatory at health facilities and must be worn to vaccination appointments. First and second doses of the COVID-19 vaccines are still available to all Nunavummiut aged 5 and older.
