Baffin Island Community Caribou Consultations

Attend the upcoming caribou consultation in your community to share your thoughts about caribou management and conservation on Baffin Island!

Representatives from the Government of Nunavut, Nunavut Tunngavik Inc., the Nunavut Wildlife Management Board, and the QikiqtaalukWildlife Board will visit eight Baffin Island communities in January to discuss the current state of caribou on Baffin Island and possible conservationmeasures to support their return in greater numbers.

Consultations are seeking input in three important areas: development of community-basedmanagement initiatives; development of a long-term Baffin Island Caribou Management Plan; and how communities can support ground surveys and provide expert Inuit knowledge, to support an island-wide aerial survey.

Consultations are taking place in the following communities:

January 18, 2014 Iqaluit: 6:30 p.m. – 9 p.m. Parish Hall

January 20, 2014 Qikiqtarjuaq: 7 p.m. – 10:30 p.m. School Gym

January 21, 2014 Clyde River: 7 p.m. – 10:30 p.m. Community Hall

January 22, 2014 Pond Inlet: 7 p.m. – 10:30 p.m. Nasivvik School Gym

January 23, 2014 Arctic Bay: 7 p.m. – 10:30 p.m. Community Hall

January 24, 2014 Igloolik: 7 p.m. – 10:30 p.m. Community Hall

January 25, 2014 Hall Beach: 7 p.m. – 10:30 p.m. Community Hall

January 27, 2014 Kimmirut: 7 p.m. – 10:30 p.m. School Gym

Refreshments and snacks will be provided, and each participant’s name will be entered into a draw to win various prizes.
