Minister Taptuna announces changes to NBCC Board
IQALUIT, Nunavut (August 5, 2010) – Peter Taptuna, Minister Responsible for the Nunavut Business Credit Corporation (NBCC), today announced changes in the membership of the corporation’s board of directors.
Nancy Karetak Lindell (Arviat), Donald Havioyak (Kugluktuk), Marg Epp (Cambridge Bay), and Wayne Solomon (Cambridge Bay) have been appointed as directors of the NBCC. Each will serve a term of three years.
Greg Cayen (Iqaluit) will replace Alex Buchan (Cambridge Bay) as the NBCC’s chairperson. Nancy Karetak Lindell will serve as vice-chair of the corporation.
“The appointments are reflective of Nunavut’s regions and demographics,” said Minister Taptuna. “Each new board member brings a unique skill set to the corporation and this will enhance the board’s ability to make sound decisions and support economic development in the territory.”
In addition, Tommy Owlijoot (Arviat) and Allan Lahure (Baker Lake) will continue as directors of the corporation.
Minister Taptuna thanks outgoing board members Alex Buchan, Paul Quassa (Igloolik), Afzal Currimbhoy (Yellowknife), Sherril Minns (Moncton) and Andre Schroer (Port Credit) for their valuable contributions to the corporation.

Backgrounder
The corporation
The Nunavut Business Credit Corporation provides loans to Nunavut businesses to help them grow and provide meaningful work for Nunavummiut.
Under the Nunavut Business Credit Corporation Act, directors are appointed for a three-year term by Cabinet (the Commissioner in Executive Council) on the recommendation of the Minister of Economic Development & Transportation.
The new directors
Nancy Karetak Lindell represented Nunavut as its Member of Parliament from 1997 to 2008. She is currently the director of Jane Glassco Arctic Fellowships where she mentors northerners from across the north to develop policies ideas on their chosen theme.
Donald Havioyak served as Kugluktuk’s Member of Legislative Assembly from 1999 to 2004. During this time he was the Minister of Culture, Language, Elders and Youth. He was also President of the Kitikmeot Inuit Association from 2005 to 2008. Havioyak is currently a Community Relations Officer with Minerals and Metals Group, one of the world’s largest producers of zinc and owner of the High Lake and Izok Lake projects in the Kitikmeot region.
Marg Epp has been helping businesses to succeed in the Kitikmeot region for the last five years. She has worked with the Kitikmeot Economic Development Commission and is currently employed as the Executive Director of the lending agency Kitikmeot Community Futures Incorporated. Epp also runs her own accounting and consulting business.
Wayne Solomon has been fostering economic growth in Cambridge Bay and the Kitikmeot region since 2005. He has worked in lead financial roles for the Kitikmeot Corporation and Nunavut Planning Commission. Solomon currently runs his own consulting firm that provides accounting, information technology and business services to municipal governments and businesses.
