Confirmed COVID-19 case at Meadowbank Mine

Iqaluit, Nunavut (August 27, 2021) – Dr. Rosann Seviour, Nunavut’s Acting Chief Public Health Officer, today announced a positive case of COVID-19 at the Meadowbank, 110 km north of Baker Lake.
“On August 24, we were informed of a presumptive positive case of COVID-19 at the Meadowbank, which was confirmed by the lab in Quebec on August 25,” said Dr. Seviour. “Contact tracing with the positive individual and associated contacts revealed possible exposure to one Nunavut worker who left the mine on August 21. The contact between the positive individual and the Nunavut resident is considered low risk, and the Nunavut resident is being followed by Public Health.”

The positive individual and mine site contacts are isolating at Meadowbank. The Department of Health is assisting in the investigation and has temporarily suspended flights in and out of the site to provide time to complete contact tracing and testing.
