Fire Prevention Week 2022

The Nunavut Fire Marshal’s Office would like to remind Nunavummiut of the following home safety tips in association with the Fire Prevention Week 2022 theme of: Fire Won’t Wait, Plan Your Escape.

Being prepared can save your life. During Fire Prevention Week, please take the time to talk to the members of your household about fire safety at home and in the community. It is important to develop and practise a home escape plan with all members of the household to ensure the safety of your family in the event of a fire in your home.

Nunavut businesses should also have a fire escape plan in place for their employees. Employees should practise the escape plan to ensure the safety of staff. Fire escape plans should be practised periodically during the year to ensure all occupants have a complete understanding of what to do in the event of a fire to always ensure their safety.

The Nunavut Fire Marshal’s office would also like to remind Nunavummiut to test their smoke and carbon monoxide detectors on a regular basis during the year to make sure they are operating properly. Smoke and carbon monoxide detectors ensure early notification in the event of a fire in the home or business.
