Gjoa Haven Umiyaqtutt Festival

Join us in celebrating the discovery of the HMS Erebus and HMS Terror at the Gjoa Haven Umiyaqtutt Festival from September 2-10, 2017.

This collaboration between Parks Canada, the Hamlet of Gjoa Haven and the Government of Nunavut will be filled with events and activities under the theme "Encounters along the Northwest Passage."

There will be a plaque unveiling to commemorate the finding of the 19th century shipwrecks, art competition presentations in carving and tapestry categories, daily games and storytelling. Special guests from the marine archaeological team and cruise ship passengers who are eager to celebrate with the community will also participate in the festivities. A Canada 150 celebration will close out the festival at the end of the week.
