Igloolik health centre temporarily closed

Igloolik health centre temporarily closed
The Department of Health is advising residents of Igloolik of a temporary closure of the health centre until Monday, February 28 due to staff shortages caused by staff isolating for exposure to COVID-19.
During the temporary closure, paramedics and a limited number of nursing staff will be on site to provide emergent, or life-threatening care. The Department of Health will use a combination of virtual health, in-person clinics and paramedic services to support clients in Igloolik.
Calls will continue to go to the health centre but may be directed to virtual support services depending on staffing and the patient’s concern. Calls may be automatically forwarded to other communities, and callers are asked to not hang up if there are delays while the call is connecting. Support staff will continue services such as filling prescriptions, but clients are reminded there could be delays.
A combination of virtual and in-person public health supports will allow for continued response to COVID-19. Vaccination clinics may be reduced, but all efforts will be taken to continue depending on staff availability.
Service reductions or closures are subject to change based on staff availability. There may be changes to services if staffing levels change.
The Department of Health is working with government and territorial partners to ensure Nunavummiut have access to necessary health services while addressing staff shortages.
