International Literacy Day 2021

Wednesday September 8, 2021, is International Literacy Day. This year’s theme is “Literacy for a human-centred recovery: Narrowing the digital divide.”

International Literacy Day is celebrated each year to raise awareness of the importance of reading and engaging in other literacy-related activities as a family.

Inuktut literacy is an important part of Inuit culture. The Department of Education encourages families to take time today to read, write, share stories, and to celebrate and promote literacy in their communities.

Join the Department of Education in supporting International Literacy Day by exploring the free online literacy resources on the department’s Angirrami Ilinniarniq website, https://angirrami.com/, or by visiting https://en.unesco.org/commemorations/literacyday for other ideas and activities.
