Notice of geotechnical and environmental studies – Iqaluit Marine Infrastructure Project

Geotechnical studies for the Iqaluit Marine Infrastructure Project are taking place from October 15 to 18, 2016, and are necessary to support the design of planned upgrades at the municipal breakwater and for a new deep water port.

These studies will happen at two locations in Iqaluit: the municipal breakwater and the proposed deep water port area on the west side of Koojesse Inlet, in the area near Anaquqsaq Island, Ukalitulik Island and the causeway.

The crew will use an air track drill rig for drilling at the municipal breakwater between the hours of approximately 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. There will no drilling at the proposed deep water port area.

Every effort will be made to minimize interruptions for boat launching and retrieval at the municipal breakwater location. Health, safety and environmental management plans will be used to eliminate or minimize potential impacts to the environment and community.

All necessary approvals have been obtained for this work.
