Nunavut Child Care Workers Receive COVID-19 Thank You Bonus

Iqaluit, Nunavut (March 18, 2022) – During the most recent wave of COVID-19, the Government of Nunavut asked child care facilities to re-open their doors to children of critical industry workers, and day care staff were asked to return to work.

To show gratitude for each facility that re-opened to care for children of critical industry workers during the most recent territory-wide lockdown, the Government of Nunavut will be providing a one-time “thank you bonus.”

“Daycares and child care workers have been instrumental in supporting our critical workers during the pandemic,” said Premier P.J. Akeeagok, “I want to thank them for responding to our urgent call for child care services during this wave of COVID-19 – by keeping their doors open they ensured that front line workers such as nurses could report to work.”

“I want to personally thank all childcare facilities and their employees for their willingness to respond to our call for support,” said Minster of Education, Pamela Gross. “They played a huge role in supporting our essential services during these challenging times, and I appreciate their commitment to children of critical industry workers and our communities.”

Each child care facility that re-opened to care for children of critical industry workers will receive a $5,000 thank you bonus from the Department of Education. Additionally, each employee who worked during that lockdown period will receive a one-time, $1,000 thank you bonus.
