Nunavut records tenth COVID-19 death

Iqaluit, Nunavut (November 1, 2022) – The Department of Health has confirmed Nunavut’s tenth COVID-19-related death. To date, Nunavut has had 10 COVID-19 deaths attributed to the territory.

“My sincere condolences to the family of the deceased,” said Minister of Health John Main. “Help protect our communities from COVID-19 this winter, by getting vaccinated. We can all take protective measures in our daily lives by staying home when sick, wearing a mask, washing hands frequently and getting vaccinated against COVID-19.”

“COVID-19 is still here and continues to be a concern for all Nunavut communities, and our condolences go out to the family,” said Chief Public Health Officer Dr. Michael Patterson. “As we predict a new wave of COVID-19 infections during the winter months, I encourage everyone to get vaccinated. The bivalent vaccine is available in Nunavut and provides effective protection against the original COVID-19 virus and the Omicron variant. Vaccination is our best defense against severe COVID-19 infection, hospitalization and death.”

All Nunavummiut older than six months are eligible for a COVID-19 vaccine and booster shots are available to anyone older than five. Contact the COVID-19 hotline at 1-888-975-8601 or go to COVID-19 Vaccination | Government of Nunavut to determine if you are up to date on your vaccinations. Vaccine appointments can be made by calling your local health centre or public health unit.

To protect the privacy of the family, no additional information will be provided about the person who died.
