Premier announces changes to senior management
Iqaluit, Nunavut (September 10, 2021) – Premier Joe Savikataaq has announced changes to the Government of Nunavut (GN)’s senior management team.
Effective September 17, Rebecca Hainnu becomes Deputy Minister of Education. Ms. Hainnu has been the Associate Deputy Minister of Education for the past year, in preparation to transition into the role. Ms. Hainnu is also a long-time educator having served as a teacher, vice-principal and principal at Quluaq School in Clyde River.
Effective last month, Rick Hunt became the President of the Qulliq Energy Corporation (QEC). Mr. Hunt has been with QEC for 17 years, in several capacities, including Director, Health, Safety, Environment and Facilities, as well as acting roles as Director of Operations, Director of Engineering, Vice President and Chief Executive Officer.
“I am excited for Ms. Hainnu and Mr. Hunt to take on their new roles, and look forward to the positive contributions they will bring to their organizations,” said Premier Savikataaq. “They are both proven leaders and their experiences and abilities will be great assets to our government.”
Premier Savikataaq also wishes Kathy Okpik, Deputy Minister of Education all the best in her retirement, effective November 1. Ms. Okpik has a long and distinguished career within the GN, in many capacities – as a former teacher, Assistant Deputy Minister and Deputy Minister of several departments, including Human Resources and Executive and Intergovernmental Affairs.
